When position vacancies arise, Human Resource personnel review all active applicants for minimum qualifications. Candidates who appear to meet minimum qualifications will be invited to attend an initial interview and assessment session. All candidates for employment are required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Candidates are also required to meet a minimum, initial interview score and meet minimum typing standards, as appropriate, for the position to be filled.
Candidates who succeed in all three areas of the initial interview process may be requested to attend a second, formal interview. At the formal interview, candidates are again scored on their responses to structured interview questions.
Once candidates have been selected as potential employees, thorough background checks will be completed. Candidate information is then reviewed by the Executive Director and the Ashtabula Board of County Commissioners for final approval to hire. Once this approval is secured, candidates will be notified of a preliminary offer of employment by the Human Resource staff, and arrangements will be made for the candidate(s) to submit to drug testing and public safety statements, in accordance with the Ashtabula County Drug Free Workplace Policy and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
The Ashtabula County Department of Job and Family Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug Free Workplace.
